Ms. Kavita Kuruganti and Ms. Kavitha Srinivasan from NFT, MAKAAM had met the State Minister of Agriculture for Karnataka in September 2023. Following this meeting, the Government of Karnataka issued a circular declaring the observance of Women Farmers’ Day.
This initiative was a result of MAKAAM Karnataka’s advocacy efforts to recognize and support the rights of women farmers. According to the circular, the Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) was instructed to organize events across the state under the theme of “sustainable agriculture.” As part of the celebrations, two women farmers from each taluka were selected and felicitated for their contributions.
