MH Agro-Ecology Initiative

MAKAAM Maharashtra provided support to women farmers during the pandemic, focusing on those from farm suicide-affected households and small and marginal landholders. The initiative is supported by SOPPECOM, Pune with knowledge assistance from Chetana Vikas, Wardha.

In 2021, 184 women farmers participated, followed by 167 in 2022 and 240 in 2023. The 2024 season has begun, with approximately 250 women joining the program and practising agroecological farming to ensure food and nutritional security of their families with no debt.

Recently, an agroecological group of women farmers has been formed called “Paryavaransnehi Swavlambi Shetkari Mahila Sanghatana” (Ecologically Sound Self-Reliant Women Farmers’ Organisation).
